Bateau Béton

Bateau Béton a émergé lors d’une résidence artistique dans le village d’Hérémence, en Suisse. Marnie s’est focalisé sur le cœur du village : son église moderniste en béton, qui abrite également un supermarché et une école. Cet îlot singulier rassemble trois communautés qui se côtoient sans jamais se rencontrer. Chacune constitue un corps social distinct, évoluant dans une représentation éloignée de l’intime. Le film cherche à les associer tout en soulignant leurs différences. Les employées de la supérette Edelweiss, seules voix de l’œuvre, affrontent des journées épuisantes sous le poids du béton, tandis que le vicaire prêche face à une église vide et que les enfants insufflent une énergie joyeuse. Tous sont reliés par ce matériau, qui confère à l’édifice une présence presque anthropomorphique.

Bateau Béton emerged from an artistic residency in the village of Hérémence, Switzerland. Marnie focused on the heart of the village: its modernist concrete church, which also houses a supermarket and a school. This singular complex brings together three communities that coexist without ever truly meeting. Each forms a distinct social body, evolving within a representation far removed from intimacy. The film seeks to bring them together while highlighting their differences. The employees of the Edelweiss grocery store—the only voices in the film—endure exhausting days under the weight of the concrete, while the vicar preaches to an empty church and the children inject a joyful energy. All are connected by this material, which gives the building an almost anthropomorphic presence.
